Israeli Government Objects to US-Backed Gaza Postwar Board
Date: 2026-01-18 AD
On January 18, 2026, members of the Israeli government’s far-right wing publicly rejected a United States-backed plan to establish a multi-national “Gaza executive board” intended to help oversee post-conflict security and administration in the Gaza Strip. The plan, part of a broader proposal known as the “Board of Peace,” is supported by the US administration and includes countries such as Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Greece, Jordan, and Pakistan. Far-right ministers criticized the plan for failing to align with Israeli policy preferences.
Despite a ceasefire agreed in late 2025, violence and instability in Gaza continue and the proposed board has generated diplomatic debate. The board’s structure would involve financial contributions and membership commitments from participating states and is part of efforts to navigate the complex postwar environment in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office communicated objections over composition and coordination with the plan.
